I had a total hip replacement and as this was my first hospital treatment I was obviously a little apprehensive however from the first consultation until my discharge 5 weeks later it's been an amazingly good experience.
Dr Chana explained precisely the surgery I was going to undertake, what it involved, what the after surgery procedures would be and what the recovery process would entail. Any questions I had were answered concisely and honestly.
There were a few methods of anaesthetic I could have taken, all of which were explained by Dr Chana and also in a booklet the hospital provide - I selected the epidural, and i'd certainly recommend it! - I was given the anaesthetic (which also included a mild sedative) a few minutes before going into theatre, the next thing I remember was waking up outside the theatre moments after the op had finished and feeling completely relaxed and actually well rested for the first time in months.
I attended all pre-op classes, all post-op appointments (such as physio), took all medication at the appropriate times as well as making sure I followed the advice sheets that were given me stating the do's and don'ts.
Looking back the whole episode is quite an organisational feat. Once back on the ward after the operation I was visited and checked on regularly, medications given and any assistance I wanted was readily available. I attempted to 'get away' the next day but unfortunately they were short staffed so unable to get all the paper work and formalities done, though I think it was a little unrealistic - however I was released the following day - with instructions and medication.
I really can't praise Dr Chana or the rest of the medical, nursing and ancillary staff enough - from being in constant pain and now after just 5 weeks (still having to be careful and following the advice) I am mobile (no crutches) and pain-free. Wonderful!.
    And Thank You all !
